Sauvitage - resistant variety

Origin:
This is a white fungus-resistant cross of the "Staatliche Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt für Wein- und Obstbau Weinsberg" from 1988.
Cross: FR 147-66 x We 75-34-13
This variety combines genetic material from Sauvigon blanc, Pinot gris and Riesling with resistance genes from Asian (Vitis amurensis) and American (Seyve villard 12-481) wild vines. The whole pedigree can be viewed here.
Synonyms:
We 88-101-13
Requirements to the site:
The site requirements of Sauvitage are to be considered average for Germany (= corresponding to Pinot Blanc).
Spread:
Sauvitage was only approved in Germany in 2020, and is therefore still very young. Nevertheless, it is already present in many German wine-growing regions.
Special characteristics:
Resistance against Peronospora is very good and against Oidium also good. Due to its Asian ancestors, frost hardiness is also very pronounced. It has a very upright growth and loose grapes, so that Botrytis can only very rarely become a problem.
Wines:
Depending on the maturation, the wines can fill out the spectrum of varieties present in the pedigree (Sauvignon blanc, Riesling, Pinot gris).
