Cabernet Carbon

Origin:

This is a red fungus resistant cross made by the Weinbauinstitut Freiburg.

Cross: Cabernet Sauvignon X (Merzling X (Saperavi severnyi X St. Laurent))

Synonyms:

FR 377-83 r

Requirements to the site:

Cabernet Carbon has relatively high requirements to the site. It will be ready vor harvesting about 14 days after Pinot noir.

Spread:

Not that much, because it is a new variety. Plantings in Germany, Italy, Romania are still made.

Type of wine:

Reminding of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Specials:

A fungus resistant red variety with a full bodied type of wine  The wines benefit very much from oxidative wine making and wood contact.

Cabernet Carbon could have really problems at blossom. In years with bad weather at this stage or on vigorous rootstocks or fields, yield can decline because of coulure.
