Origin:
This is a red fungus resistant cross made by the Weinbauinstitut Freiburg in 1989.
cross: Seibel 7053 (Chancellor) X Solaris
Synonyms:
FR 523-89 r
Requirements to the vineyard site:
A bit lower than for Pinot noir. Ripening time is about 1 week before Pinot noir.
Spread:
Some plantings in Germany, Poland, Danemark, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Specials:
A fungus-proof, red new breed from Freiburg with a very good resistance to Peronospora and Oidium. Due to the loose grapes, the susceptibility to botrytis is also very low.
The wines are similar to Merlot and are very color intensive and rich in phenols.
