Baron - resistant variety

This is a red fungus resistant cross made by the Weinbauinstitut Freiburg.

Cross: Cabernet Sauvignon X (Merzling X (Saperavi severnyi X St. Laurent))

FR 455-83 r

Requirements to the vineyard site:

These are a little bit lower than these of Pinot noir, because ripening is about one week before Pinot noir.

Until now not much, because it is a new variety. There are alredy plantings in Germany and the Netherlands.

This new variety is fungus (downy and powdery mildew) and also very resistant against Botrytis, because the bunches are very loos. In years with bad weather at flowering time there can be problems with millerandage (shot berries).

Type of wine:

The wines of Baron remind of Pinot noir.
