Solaris - resistant variety

Origin:

This is a white fungus resistant cross made by the Weinbauinstitut Freiburg

Cross:  Merzling X Gm 6493 (Zarya Severa X Muscat Ottonel)

Synonyms:

FR 240-75 was the originally used number before it had a name.

Requirements to the site:

Solaris is a very early ripening white wine variety. Also in "poor" sites she will ripen. In good wine sites she will be ripe very early (e.g. in Germany at the end of August already 100°Oechsle).

Spread:

Because it is a relative new variety there are not thousands of hectars planted, but the demand of plants is relatively high, and there are already plantings in Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Norway.

Specials:

The resistance to powdery mildew and downy mildew is very high, so normally no treatments are needed.
The vigour is very high, so that rather weak rootstocks should be used for most soils.
Due to the tightly packed grapes, there is a certain susceptibility to Botrytis.
